God’s Favorite Conversation: Talking With You
What is one thing you could talk forever and ever about? Maybe it’s your favorite sport or game, your best friend, or an awesome memory you have with your family that you love to think about. Each of us is different in some ways, but one thing most of us have in common is that we all have topics we get passionate about and could talk about for hours. Have you ever wondered the same thing about God? “I wonder what He thinks about all the time...” or “What is God’s favorite thing to talk about?” We’ll give you a hint... God’s favorite thing to talk to you about is... YOU! He loves to talk to you about the dreams he has for you and the things he has to say about the person He’s created you to be. One way that you get to hear the heart of God is by talking to Him, asking him questions, and listening. There is a word for this that many of us know–PRAYER. When you have a conversation with someone, you talk to them. The same is true of our conversations with God. We can tell Him whatever we want, and He will listen and speak back to us. However, when it comes to you, His son or daughter, He has a lot to say.
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” We get to go to God excited, confident and expectant, not nervous, scared or timid. We can go to God at any point, knowing He is thrilled to speak to us. If you love cars, it’s a fun feeling to talk to another person who loves cars. If you like soccer, it’s awesome talking to a friend who understands the game and likes to talk about it, too. If your favorite time of the year is summer camp, you probably have a blast talking to other people about your memories from camp. That feeling you get when talking to another person about your favorite thing is the same feeling God gets when He talks to you. When we talk to God, Scripture says that He will pour out His mercy, grace and love onto us. We can call on God, and he will respond. God loves you. He finds you interesting and likes listening to you. He wants to speak to you, too!
So today, take a moment to talk to God! Maybe you want to do it in the quiet of your bedroom or on a walk or even in the car. Take time to have a conversation where you tell Him everything that is on your mind. From what you did that day to what your friend said at school this week to what you hope you have for lunch tomorrow, tell Him everything that is on your heart! Then, ask Him some questions. And before moving on too quickly, wait and see how He responds.
Parents, prayer can be done any day at any time. There aren’t any rules to prayer. They can be short or long, quiet or loud, fancy or plain words, emotional or fun. God hears it all, and He turns His ear to hear what His children are saying. Your kids need to see their parents calling on Jesus in every circumstance.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 instructs us to pray without ceasing. So... pray! In every situation - bring it to God with your kids. Start today! Along with your children, take time to pray together, and then take time to sit and wait. Even if it’s sixty seconds! See how God might respond after you talk to Him.
