And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)
Here we are in our second week of 2018. I am sure with the beginning of a new year, many of you took this as an opportunity for a fresh start. Maybe this is the year where you will step into a new career or relationship. Maybe it will be the year you go on a Global Team or lead a Lifegroup. And yet here we are, almost 10 days into the new year, and if you’re anything like me, our steadfast resolve on the eve of the first has already subsided a bit.
Before you know it, we may find ourselves in the same place by the end of January that we were at the end of December. We’ve all been there before… so how do we rise above this and grab onto all God has for us this year?
It may sound simple, but we have to hold tightly to the promise of God that He will see us through.
That’s why Paul’s encouragement to the Philippians should come to us as such good news! Paul tells us he is sure or confident in something. His confidence was not grounded in himself, his resolve to get a job done, or to change, but rather in Someone far more trustworthy. Paul knew this powerful truth: that while we finite humans waver and wane in our hopes and dreams, God does not!
His promises are settled and steady, steadfast and strong, yes and amen. He doesn’t have to re-commit Himself year after year to the things He’s already committed Himself to.
This is a truth to settle into and rest in: the work that God began in you and in our church is a work that God will finish. Isn’t that freeing?
God is doing a great work in our church and especially at our Woodbury campus, and I am so excited for what’s ahead this year. God will continue to finish the amazing things He has in store for us, so will you join me in praying for Woodbury?
- Pray for a continued move of God at our campus and in the city of Woodbury.
- Pray for God to add to our campus daily those who are being saved and set free.
- Pray for God’s promises to be yes and amen for our campus as we grow to reach more.
