Day 14: Local Service and Outreach Opportunities

  • 1:10 households in Minnesota are affected by hunger.
  • On any given night in Minnesota, there are 6,000 homeless youth living on their own.
  • Minnesota is ranked 13th in the nation as a hotspot for trafficking of which youth are the most vulnerable.
  • On an average day, there are 9,400 children in foster care.
  • There are almost 1 million immigrants living in and around the Twin Cities. The world is literally at our doorstep.

Be agitated.

During this season of fasting, will you allow the Holy Spirit to cause you to become AGITATED (arouse concern about an issue in the hope of promoting action)? As the Church we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Hunger, poverty, homelessness, foster care, immigrants, trafficking are all situations where Jesus is the answer, but if someone is hungry, cold, lonely, or trapped with no way out, how can we share Jesus without meeting their needs first?

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:17-18)

What if the path to sharing the Gospel with others is feeding the hungry, clothing the cold, befriending the lonely, speaking up for those unable to speak for themselves? The world most assuredly needs Jesus, so let’s tell them about Jesus while we meet their needs. Ask God to show the needs around you? Pray for ways to meet those needs. Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Prayer points:

  • The eyes of the Church to be opened to the needs around them.
  • The end of human trafficking in our lifetime.
  • The Church to be the solution for the shortage of foster families.
  • Opportunities to share the Gospel with the unreached from other nations here in the Twin Cities.
