A Risky Matter

I wish I took more risks.

Honestly, somedays I just want to sit at a coffeeshop, write blog posts, and not do anything that could be even remotely risky.

So why do I end up taking risks anyway? Because that’s the only way to grow and make a difference. In fact, by not taking risks you end up never changing your situation for the better.

In Jesus’ day, there’s an inspiring story of a woman who took a big risk. She had suffered from a humiliating and painful condition for twelve years. She looked for help from a long line of physician…but nothing changed.

Then she heard about Jesus, and one day she slipped into a large crowd of people who were following him. The story goes on to tell us that she was thinking, “If I can put a finger on his robe, I can get well…” So she took a risk.

She reached out her hand, touched his robe, and in that moment, the years of pain and humiliation instantly ended.

She could feel the change and so could Jesus. He said to her, “Daughter, you took a risk of faith, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed! Be healed…” (Mark 5, MSG).

This woman took a risk.

She stretched out her faith when she stretched out her finger, and it paid off big! Her faith in Jesus gave way to her favor with Jesus! It’s amazing to me that Jesus wasn’t even paying attention to this women when his healing came to her. Was it her insecurity that kept her from wanting to be seen and known by Jesus? Even though she may have been insecure of herself, she was confident in Christ, and what He could do. She knew that IF ONLY she could put a finger on his robe, she would be healed!

I pray to have that kind of bold, push-my-way-through-the-crowd, IF ONLY faith.

To have the kind of faith and awestruck wonder of who Jesus is and what he can do.

What do you have going on in your life that requires an ‘IF ONLY’ faith? If only you could get in the presence of Jesus, what would you reach out to him for? Your marriage, health, career or family decisions, a financial crisis? What do you need to take a risk of faith in and believe that only Jesus can do?

The truth is Jesus is waiting for you to reach out, in faith, and receive His favor. He’s waiting for you to risk your self-confidence and reach out for Christ confidence. If you’ve put all your confidence in doctors, spouses, finances or titles but still aren’t living a life that’s well and blessed, what do you have to lose?

Take a risk of faith in Jesus, and hear Him say “Live well, live blessed.”
